Eastern Oregon is made of working farms and ranches. Our food is grown in our soil, raised with care, and served by local proprietors who take pride in their craft. What has sustained us for generations now forms the foundation for Oregon’s broader culinary story.
As a Destination Management Organization, Visit Eastern Oregon connects the dots between producers, restaurants, retailers, locals, and visitors.
In 2025, we conducted a regional assessment of culinary and agritourism in Eastern Oregon. The study included interviews with 67 producers, business owners, and stakeholders. We collected data on agriculture and food production across the region, as well as the opportunities that exist for investment and culinary storytelling that strengthens our regional food systems.
What We Learned
Eastern Oregon’s agricultural diversity is rich — but we’re most commonly known for wheat and cattle. The reality is that bounty is plentiful, and it touches every ingredient: from meat and bread, to fruit, honey, and wine.
We also learned that authentic food stories deepen visitor engagement and create greater economic impact. Food-based tourism doesn’t require large-scale infrastructure. It requires connection, collaboration, and clear storytelling.
